The Outsiders - Newspaper Article
DIRECTIONS
Reread the account of the rescue from the burning church in chapter 6, and imagine that
you are a reporter covering the event. OR you may choose to do the rumble and its aftermath in chapters 9 & 10.
PART 1
In the chart below, you can collect the facts you need to answer the questions of WHO,
WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY or HOW. If the facts can’t be found in the story, use your
imagination to fill in the details.
You must include all of the elements of a newspaper article.
PART 2
Using these facts you’ve collected above, refer back to the instruction guide pdf, and start writing your newspaper article, being sure to follow and include ELEMENTS of a NEWSPAPER ARTICLE.
PART 3
Run your article through turnitin.com to check for errors, plagiarism, etc.
PART 4
- Take your text and use PAGES on your laptop, or an online template to create an authentic looking front page. Keep in mind the setting when naming your newspaper, and the ads/extra that accompany your article. Google Drive has some templates here: http://goo.gl/Nm3TcK
- You may use photos that are copyright free; visit Creative Commons or use Google’s Research Tool to find copyright free images. NO IMAGES FROM THE MOVIE MAY BE USED, as they are copyright protected.
If you uses photos that are copyrighted, you MUST cite them correctly using MLA format on a BIBLIOGRAPHY page. Use this website to help you:
Example:
The correct citation for this picture is:
Dwyer, Michael. St. Ignatius' Church. Digital image. National Register. N.p., n.d. Web. 01 Sept. 2014.
- BLANK SPACE on your page? Use ads and/or write short articles that would be fitting for the SETTING of the story. Think 1960s, the time period when the book took place. HAVE FUN WITH IT! If you do use original ads, please be sure to cite them in your bibliography using the link above.
