2.  Spelling Bee Test - You will be taking a spelling test to determine the top spellers on our team for the School Spelling Bee.  Anyone seriously preparing for this, please see Mrs. Nagaji before break. This test will not count as a grade, and no one will be forced to participate in the Bee if they don't want to.

3.  MONSTER Vocabulary TEST GAME
Yup, all 100 words will be on the test in January! To help you prepare for the test:

CREATE a GAME for two or more players to help review the words for the test

• includes at least 80% of the words (don't do the easy ones)
• can be a board game, card game, a video game (example: Jeopardy), or quiet game (lift the flap book). NOTE:  Flashcards by themselves is not a game.
  
• may work with a partner from your English class (max. of two people), but games created by partners must reflect TWICE the work.

Meet the deadline because you will be playing the game in class on the day you return from break (Jan. 4).

1. Each person will be assigned one vocabulary word from the list in class.

2. Write a sentence (seven words or longer) that uses the word correctly and post it to our Team Po'okela English Blog (see link below).

3. If this is your first time posting on the blog, you will need an email address so that you can register to use the blog. Please include either your first or last name in your login. Logins that do not have a name will be deleted.

4. We will correct the sentences in class the next day and for each sentence that is correct (usage as well as punctuation), the class gets a point.

5. Students who DO NOT do a sentence will affect the score as each class' score will be a percentage of how many sentences are correct.

6. At the end of the month, the class with the highest score will get a treat!

2.  SURF Book (Sustained Uninterrupted Reading for Fun)
     For the month of August, find a book that you want to read. It should be:

• 150+ Pages
• Genre of choice (Science Fiction, Fiction, Non-fiction, Mystery, etc.)
• No books that have been made into a movie
• A book that you are reading for the first time and appropriate for the 8th grade
