Information Re: Electronic Cigarrettes

February 20, 2013

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The purpose of this notice is to clarify the confusion regarding the possession and/or use of electronic cigarettes in school.  According to the State of Hawaii Department of Education, an electronic cigarette is a contraband item (Class D offense) in the Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR) Title 8 Chapter 19 Student Misconduct, Discipline, School Searches and Seizures, Reporting Offenses, Police Interviews and Arrests, and Restitution for Vandalism.  Consequently, any student found in possession and/or use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) is in violation of this offense and is subject to the disciplinary actions under the provisions of this chapter.

At Moanalua Middle School, all confiscated e-cigarettes will NOT be returned and will be properly disposed.

For a complete list of contraband items, please visit our school website at http://moanaluamiddle.org > General Info. and School Policies > DISCIPLINE GUIDELINES--CHAPTER 19

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact either Mrs. Tabiolo or me at 831-7850.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

Lisa Nagamine

Principal
