Graduated from Hawaii Baptist Academy (c/o 1994)
Bachelor of Science - Biology from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities
Post Baccalaurate - Secondary Education, Science from the University of Hawaii, Manoa

I have always loved science growing up.  I could always be found playing in Moanalua & Salt Lake streams, exploring tide pools, and examining any living thing I could find.  I grew up in the Moanalua area but went to school at Hawaii Baptist Academy.  Throughout high school I volunteered as a docent at the Honolulu Children's Zoo and the Hawai'i Nature Center.

I began my college career at the University of Hawaii, Manoa as a Zoology major but transferred to the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and became a Biology major.  My favorite experiences as an undergrad at the U of M was taking Ecology and Animal Behavior up at the Itasca Biological Station for a summer and Social Entomology.  I worked as a coordinator for the school's Biology Colloquium and as a guide in the Bell Museum of Natural History.  In my junior year I began vollunteering in the U of M YMCA's Y-Scholars program which worked with inner-city middle school youth, reading, and higher education.  It was this experience working with middle schoolers that made me want to pursue a career in teaching adolescents.

After graduating from the University of Minnesota I moved back to Hawaii and earned my Teaching Certificate through the University of Hawaii's Post-Baccalaurate program in secondary education.  I was lucky to do my student teaching at Moanalua Middle School under veteran teacher, Mrs. Asato, in the Fall 2001.  I was even luckier to get hired in Fall 2002 to teach 7th and 8th grade science at Moanalua Middle School.  I have been here ever since!

In 7th grade I teach life science and in the 8th grade, earth/space science.  I coach MMS volleyball with Mr. Bernardo and Mr. Kiriu.  I also coach our school's robotic team with Mr. Arakaki, Mrs. Lee, & Mr. Okamura.  I also help to organize our Multicultural Day Celebration with Mrs. Tano.  I also help with our MMS Robotic Camp Innovation during the summer.  I also have 2 spoiled & stubborn shibas named Kyuubi & Kumo...but I LOVE them!!!

Some of my hobbies include playing volleyball, hiking, playing with dogs, drawing, crafts, origami, anime, comics, listening to music, playing video games, cooking/eating, and reading.  Currently my favorite books are The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel Series by Michael Scott, The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan, and Fablehaven Series by Brandon Mull.

I love teaching here at Moanalua Middle School and look forward to meeting all of you!  Science is cool...please don't drool!
