STUDENT LOCKERS
GUIDELINES AND PROCEDURES

Use of Locker
All lockers assigned to pupils are the property of Moanalua Middle School.  In other words, lockers are not private property. At no time does the school relinquish its exclusive control of its lockers. Students will be assigned a locker only after they and their parents have read and signed a permission letter. If lockers are to be shared (with a locker buddy) BOTH sets of students and parents must sign the letter.

Students can only store their own belonging and must keep the lockers assigned to them. They cannot move their belongings to any other locker to which they are not assigned. The storage of other student’s belongings is prohibited. Any student found using a locker other than the one assigned or allowing other students to store their things, are subject to having the locker immediately taken away.

Lockers are to be used to store school supplies and personal items necessary for use at school. Lockers shall not be used to store items, which cause an interference with school purposes or that violate school rules (see handbook and Chapter 19 Handbook). No food products are allowed in any locker overnight, to avoid rodent and insect infestation. Lockers are not burglar proof and students should not leave valuables such as money, and expensive personal property in the lockers. Students must keep their possessions only in their assigned lockers and are responsible for any assigned school property that may be taken from lockers. Posters, stickers, mirrors, hooks or any other type of decorations are not allowed inside or outside of the locker.

Locks
The school will retain access to student lockers by keeping a master list of combinations. All locker students and their locker buddies: (1) must supply their own combination type locks, (2) must provide the combination to administration or designee and this also applies to replacement locks, (3) are solely responsible for the contents of their lockers and (4) should not give out the combination to other students.
The school principal or his/her designee shall have custody of all combinations to all lockers or locks. Students are prohibited from placing locks on any locker without the advance approval of the school principal or his/her designee. Students should make sure the lock is secure after using lockers and report all incidents to a School Security Attendant where locks and or lockers have been tampered with.

Locker Cleaning
Every Friday will be locker clean up day. The entire contents of each locker should be removed every Friday. By emptying the lockers, there will be no reason for theft over the weekend. Nothing should be left in the locker over the weekend.

Inspection of Locker Contents
Random searches of school lockers and their contents have a positive impact on deterring violations of school rules, ensure proper maintenance of school property and provide great safety and security for pupils and personnel. Other reasons for a search of a student’s locker would be a complaint or evidence of foul odors emanating from a locker or the leaking of any wet or dry substance. Accordingly, the principal or designee may search lockers and locker contents at any time, without notice, and without parent/guardianship or pupil consent.

Access to Lockers
Students may be able to access their lockers at certain times within the day.  For  list of the times, please click on the PDF file below.

All unauthorized locks (ones which the school does not have direct access) will be cut off from the locker. Failure to comply with these rules may result in the loss of locker privileges.

For additional information or questions about these locker guidelines, contact:
• Donny Maa, School Safety Manager at 305-1309.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
  1. Your parents must fill out the information on the Locker Permission Form completely.
  2. Take your completed Locker Permission Form and your combination lock, to your Advisory Teacher, or a Security Attendant, or the School Safety Manager, to confirm the combination code of your lock and verify it on your form.
  3. Your Advisory Teacher, or Security Attendant will then collect your Locker Permission Form and forward it to the School Safety Manager who will later issue a locker to you.

Locker Assignments:
The School Safety Manager will assign lockers to students on a “first come, first served” basis. It is strongly advised that students share a locker with a locker buddy for the entire school year, because there are only 464 available lockers.
